March 15th, 2017

Do you need the energy supply of caffeine to get anything done, but you’re tired of the regular places you frequent?

Are you looking for a great new place to meet up with your friends, coworkers, or even a date?

Do you want to try something other than Starbucks?

Then this list is exactly what you’ve been looking for. Here are 9 unique coffee shops in and around the Ontario, CA area that are perfect destinations for whatever your specific needs – as long as they include a desire for a great cup of coffee!

1. Peet’s Coffee & Tea

If you’re okay with a small drive from your apartments in Ontario, CA, Peet’s Coffee and Tea might be your new office away from the office.

This coffee chain has been around for more than 50 years in the Southern California area. Most old-timers will recognize them as the coffee shops always found at crossroads and intersections in corner stores with desirable apartments located upstairs.

Peet’s gets all of their coffee beans through a Direct Trade and Certification program. This means they regularly visit farmers in person and negotiate prices directly. Plus, their coffees are regularly evaluated to ensure they comply with environmental standards.

According to their website, despite their significant growth, they “remain true to the same principle that inspired [their] founder – an unrelenting commitment to quality.”

Fans of Peet’s even have their own name: Peetniks. So if you and your friends want to meet up and join the club, check out Peet’s Coffee and Tea.

2. The Dirty Penguin

This fascinatingly named establishment might just have the best coffee in the area. While it’s a bit of a drive into Chino Hills, you’ll probably find the trip worth it.

The Dirty Penguin has a perfect score on Yelp after 188 reviews. That’s not natural.

Here’s what one of the 5-star reviewers had to say:

“Finally got to try this place out with my big and twin this past weekend… We stayed there for a few hours studying and we actually got work done… I would recommend café lovers like myself to try this place at least once. I’d definitely go back again.”

And if you’re looking to get your work or studying done on the weekends, you’ll even be well-fed. The Dirty Penguin serves brunch from 8am to 3pm Saturdays and Sundays.

But if you want more information, for now this might be your best source! As of yet, their website is mysteriously blank. If you trust reviews, though, you should absolutely give The Dirty Penguin a try.

3. Page One Café

If you like to get your work done at your local library but wish you could drink a fresh caffeinated beverage while you’re at it, you’ll probably find yourself at Page One Café soon enough.

Seriously, how often do you run into such an appropriate combination?

They have a non-traditional food menu as well, including everything from quesadillas to sandwiches. According to one reviewer:

“This is not a traditional deli… the food is prepared much nicer and you can tell there is attention to detail and style with every plate.”

Plus, for the 21 and over crowd, Page One Café also serves a selection of six craft beers and wine. But if you choose to indulge, make sure you have a ride home safely to your apartments in Ontario, CA!

4. Rad Coffee

One of the greatest words to originate from the Eighties is right there in the name: Rad Coffee.

This coffee shop is definitely for people looking for a more punk edge to their coffee shop. And for a specific clientele, they have specialty coffees.

Their menu includes daily specialty coffees, a Vegan cold brew, a wide selection of blended drinks with interesting names like “Frankenstein” and “Cereal Chillers,” and lots of espressos for the caffeine junkies.

According to their website:

“Rad Coffee’s mission is to bring constant change and creativity to something as simple as a cup of coffee. By creating an environment that welcomes anyone and everyone and providing unique drinks that cannot be found anywhere – that is truly rad.”

So, whether you’re a cool business type or an artist covered in tattoos, you’ll find a warm welcome at Rad Coffee.

5. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

Originating in South California way back in 1963, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf proudly proclaims themselves to be the oldest and largest privately held specialty coffee and tea retailer in the US.

While you can find their locations all over, they’re very much a Californian coffee shop. And for the busy remote professional, that might make it feel just like home.

According to their website, they “select only the top one percent of Arabica beans and the finest hand-plucked, whole leaf teas.”

Their mission statement declares:
“When it comes to quality, we aim higher than the standard to deliver the world’s most vibrant flavors. That is our heritage.”

That means if you’re meeting up with someone to go over those new documents and aren’t sure if they drink coffee, they’ll have a great assortment of other beverages to choose from!

6. Dch Roasters

Sometimes, you just want to step outside the bounds of what’s common to try something handcrafted and unique.

At DCH Roasters, that’s what you’ll find. According to their website, they’re “extremely committed to providing our customers with the highest quality coffee.”

Sound like big boasters instead of big roasters?

They back up their claims with their small-batch roasting process. They hand select and grind their beans hourly to ensure a tailored coffee cup experience – one you and your coworkers or friends might appreciate.

And if you prefer working from home, you can even sign up for their Coffee Club. They’ll send you fresh coffee straight to your door that you can cancel any time.
